29-year-old Ian McIntosh has built up a reputation over the last few years as a bit of a charger.
His ability on skis doesn’t really come as much of a surprise when you look at his background. Ian’s entire family are ski mad, and growing up in the Kootenays in British Columbia, Ian had no shortage of ski days. Even today his 82-year-old grandfather is still teaching! Immersed in the race scene from an early age, it is easy to see where he got both his love for speed and his technical ability.
However Ian always found himself drawn to the powder and really broke into the scene after heading to New Zealand to do a winter season. Here he entered the World Heli Challenge and met a fellow Canadian, Pierre Yves LeBlanc who persuaded him to try a season in Whistler. Ian did exactly that and tried his hand at Big Mountain competitions, culminating in a second place at the Verbier Xtreme 2004. This opened up the chance to film with industry leaders TGR in 2005, and Ian scored the opening segment in ”Anomaly” at first go. Ever since he has been a regular in TGR’s groundbreaking movies. In the Summer, Ian McIntosh can be found mountain biking near Pemberton, B.C.
What is your favorite ski in 2012/2013 Collection?
Why do you like this ski?
Because it's so versatile, it can be deep pow, super steep, or hard pack and I'm still loving it. I found that I could ski a couple gears faster than ever before. Finally a stable fully rockered ski.
What conditions do you use this ski for?
I used them for skiing in AK because their so good on the steeps and in the pow.
What other skis in the 2012/2013 collection do you ride?
Can you tell us a little about each pair of skis, and about what sort of conditions you use them for?
I love the Katanas when the snow isn't as deep and I'm going fast and big. They are so solid at high speed and perfect for stomping big cliff hucks due to the solid tail.
The Kuro is just the all time pow board. They are so much fun in the deep stuff.
What about bindings? What bindings do you use? And where do you mount them?
I now use the Jester Pro ( the best binding I've ever had) I mount my Katanas at plus 2, my Shiros and Kuros I mount at plus 3
What DIN do you have your bindings on?
13 and they only come off when I need them to.
